Kampung Daun is an Indonesian restaurant located in the hills high above Bandung near the village of Cihideung. The thing that makes Kampung Daun such a fantastic place to eat is that it is set in a lush valley with a stream running past the various bales in which guests eat.
Menu Kampung Daun
The menu at Kampung Daun is a mix of Indonesian and Western food with the main focus being on the Indonesian section of the menu. The Indonesian food is simply a selection of traditional soups plus a selection of rice dishes with the three different styles of sop buntut being really popular. Also, there are a few duck and fish dishes and a handful of chicken dishes — everyone loves chicken!
To be honest, the Western food here is uninspiring with things like corn soup which is so far from being Western it’s not funny. The rest of the Western menu is simply steaks and ribs with another non-Western dish — black pepper beef with rice. Whateverlah! After the Western menu comes the pizza menu… and pizza is Western. So… maybe that should be in the Western section. Who knows!? If you want Western food, don’t come here — go to Origin Bandung instead.
Out the front of Kampung Daun there are a series of food carts selling such things as harum manis, kue putu and other assorted snacks. These are quite popular for people who can’t get a seat in bale on weekends when it is really busy!
Kampung Daun is expensive. Really expensive for food such as this, but people don’t come to Kampung Daun just for the food. They come for the entire experience which usually lasts a few hours.
Kampung Daun Bales
The entire experience at Kampung Daun is centre on the bales which you eat in. These bales are scattered over hundreds of metres throughout the tiny valley and people usually have their meals here and then relax with their families and some even sleep! The bales are made from wood and bamboo as is the traditional style and add to the authenticity of the experience.
Kampung Daun Location
Kampung Daun is located in the village of Cihideung 12km north of the centre of Bandung. First, drive north along Jalan Sukajadi past Paris Van Java (PVJ) until Sukasari. Just past the Universitas Pendidikan you must turn left up a small road. This small road leads to Kampung Daun and Cihideung and is the road that many of the famous Bandung restaurants are on such as Maja House and d’Jadul.
