Vira and Mumun in front of Anak Krakatau

Starting from today we are beginning a new series in which we plan to profile many of Indonesia’s travel bloggers. Why? Because we think that Indonesian travel bloggers have an extraordinary amount of information to share with the rest of the world and we want to help promote them as widely as possible. Over the coming months we will profile a range of bloggers with a range of experience.

Our first travel blogger profile is of Mumun and Vira from Indohoy. They’re experienced bloggers who usually blog in English so they can reach an audience outside of Indonesia. Just quietly, they’re one of our favourite bloggers out there. 😀 Read on to find out more.

Who are Indohoy?
We are two Indonesian girls who have incurable itch on our feet, like to see all the places in the world, and have the most curiosity and trying to rediscover our own country.

When did the blog start?
There’s one time at band camp,… 😛

The blog was launched online on April 2009, but we had prepared it since November 2007.

Why did you create this blog? What are your goals?
V: Because we can! Muhahaha…And because the itch on our feet crept up to our fingers and writes what we experience in our travels.

M: Our goal? It would be nice to be a reference for those traveling to Indonesia, and hopefully the site can sustain itself and keep us on the go. That would be GGOOAALLL!!!

What do you think the government of Indonesia could do to help more foreigners enjoy the sites of Indonesia?
They could care more about the tourism. It all begins from there.

What is your preferred method of travel? Budget, backpacker, mid-range, luxury? Why? Do you think you will still travel this way when you have children?
Method of travel: we love to travel independently. We don’t prefer tours but we never say never to them. We do enjoy the company of guides to add knowledge.

If we have children, it would be interesting to bring them along with us when they’re old enough. It’ll be a different selling point to Indohoy. Children should travel too, to widen their horizon. We believe it’s one way to build love to this bizarre country.

What is your favourite travel destination in the world and why?
V: Oh we so hate you for this! Why are you making us choose?! But okay. Mine would probably be… um..probably the whole Sulawesi because it’s got everything. Batanes in the Philippines because it’s gorgeous & laid back. LuangPrabang & Ubud because they’re artsy & laid back. Baluran because it’s wild and I love the dry savanna! Hahahaha..and many more!

M: You’re the devil, PergiDulu! Why can’t you just ask our shoe size instead :p Mine would be…. *two hours later*… just to name a few (because I can’t name one) Umroh to Mecca because it’s religious, Laos because it’s raw and different, Vietnam was awesome too, and for Indonesia…aaaakkk… I’m gonna say Flores because there’s so much to see, Aceh because it’s post disaster…. make me stop!

What is your dream travel destination? Why?
We dream of going everywhere! Because the world is our playground and we believe there is always something interesting in every place.

Do you have any particular clothes you like to wear when you travel? Why?
Vira: shorts and loose tank tops because they’re the comfiest.

Mumun: shorts and some comfy shirts with short sleeves made from thin material.

Your must-take travel gadgets? Why?
Vira: my iPhone and iPad. Because of Instagram, Twitter, email, work on Word, drawing apps, and the basic texting and calling. And my underwater camera cos it works underwater – obviously – and in the rain!

Mumun: my blackberry because I can live tweet on the road. I did buy it for that particular purpose, and also for push mail from work. My camera too because..well.. we need it for blogging and as proof that what we did wasn’t a hoax. As the Indonesians say it: No pic: hoax!
