We were recently invited to stay at the Aston Kuta Hotel & Residence in South Kuta / Tuban, Bali in order for us to check it out and share our experience with our dear readers.
We arrived at Bali Airport and decided not to deal with the taxi counter or the countless drivers that offer their services and instead chose to walk. After arriving to Bali Airport on more than 25 occasions, I think it’s safe to say that there is no way to get out of the airport without being ripped off unless you walk. So we walked.

The good thing about the Aston Kuta is that it is within walking distance of the airport. Simply walk towards the pickup/dropoff area within the airport and keep walking until you reach the motorcycle parking area. There is a small exit here and you can simply ask one of the guys which direction to the hotel. Needless to say, after a 10 minute walk you are in the hotel lobby – quicker than a cab and it saves you the 50,000 rupiah that the taxi counter wants to charge.

The check-in process at the hotel was smooth and the staff were very friendly. No sooner had we arrived than we were in our room exploring it and marveling at how big it was! We were given the Premier Suite which is only slightly more expensive than the superior and deluxe rooms, but offers about twice as much space, has a lounge suite, kitchenette and 2 TVs. These rooms also come with a balcony depending on whether your on the ground floor or not. Ground floor has direct access to the swimming pool, floors above have balconies.

Needless to say, the room was very impressive, clean, modern and nothing was broken – someone is maintaining the place. Included in the room price is a buffet breakfast which is surprisingly good for something that is free. We had a selection of fruit, pastries, bread, pancakes, omelettes and a vast array of Asian dishes such as fried rice, noodles and dimsum. Coffee and juice were bottomless.

The pool area is really good and we were a little surprised at how little noise from kids in the pool made it into the room.
The Aston Kuta website states that there is free WiFi throughout the hotel including the rooms. When we arrived, we were told that free WiFi was available only in the lobby which was inconvenient and that if we wanted to use it in the room, we had to pay. Not sure what the real story is, but there was certainly no WiFi available in the room that didn’t require a password – the only ones we could connect to required a password which we assume is the one they want to be paid for.

The location of the hotel is interesting. For us, it is perfect mainly because it is outside of central Kuta which can at times be totally overwhelming. But it’s close enough to all the action that you can walk to Discovery Mall within 10 minutes or even catch a cab for 8,000 rupiah. A cab to Seminyak cost between 35,000 and 50,000 rupiah depending on traffic, but you can be sure that traffic all around the Kuta area is just awful these days.

Would we stay here again? Well, for the price of that Suite room, it certainly is good value and we would be happy to have that room again, particularly if we were on holiday and wanting a little bit of luxury.
