We’re backpackers which means that we are also cheap-arses. Cheap-arses who usually live in a tropical climate and don’t own clothes suitable for cold weather. So what does that mean? It means we needed to buy lots of warm clothing when we arrived in Christchurch and we needed to do it cheaply. That meant researching op shops, second hand clothes shops and that sort of thing. Luckily, we managed to find cheap clothes in Christchurch!
Recycled Clothing Warehouse
We found this place called the Recycled Clothing Warehouse which is about 5km east of Christchurch near a large bay. It’s essentially just a huge warehouse full of clothes which are sold for $2 each! It was so cool to just pull stuff of the racks knowing that it didn’t really matter if it was fashionable or not or whether the fit was perfect. All that mattered was that the clothes were cheap.
In the end we bought a couple of scarves, a pair of tracksuit pants, a couple of jumpers and jacket all for NZ$10 or Rp75,000 or US$8. Such a bargain and so cheap!
Cheap clothes in Christchurch
So what’s the moral of the story? If you’re heading to a country where you don’t have the appropriate clothing, search for cheap clothes at an op shop.
