Origin Bandung - cafe organic yang enak

One of our favourite restaurants in all of Bandung is Origin House & Kitchen. It’s a terrific restaurant owned by the same people who make Eiger backpacks, a fantastic family who recently invited me to feature as the speaker in one of their corporate videos. So what is so good about Origin Bandung? Read on to find out.

Origin Bandung prides itself on the quality of its food and it does this so well. The menu consists of fantastic dishes such as tuna, salmon, chicken and some Indonesian mains as well as absolutely delicious desserts like the choco lava cake among others. Another great aspect of Origin is the coffee — we think it’s the best in Bandung. At almost every cafe in Bandung, baristas boil the milk. But when milk is heated to more than 65 degress celsius, it starts to burn much like oil does if it gets too hot. When things burn, they don’t taste very nice which is why if you get a REALLY HOT coffee, the milk is burnt and it tastes awful. 90% of the time at Origin Bandung, they do not burn the milk meaning the coffee is usually great.

They also have this awesome interior design at Origin Bandung and it includes such awesome things as…. a vertical garden! Basically, a whole bunch of pot plants sitting on the sides of the wall. It’s a great feat of architecture and horticulture and it makes the setting feel like an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the street out the front.

Of course they have free wifi, but it is slightly slow. But that’s normal for Indonesia, right? Well, I have surfed much fast in Indonesia as well. It just requires the owner of the particular cafe or restaurant to pay more for their internet service. Would love to see faster internet here.

The prices at Origin House & Kitchen are expensive by Indonesian standards. When compared to Western style cafes in Bali, it is probably on the same level. When compared to cafes and restaurants in the West, it is cheap. So this basically means that locals who don’t travel a lot will think Origin is expensive, locals who travel to Bali and occasionally to Singapore will accept it is expensive, but also accept its quality. And bule will think it is reasonably priced… Except some of those that I have met who spend all their money on beer and can’t even afford a nasi goreng without borrowing money from friends! 🙂
